Gray paper with red apple prints, craft sticks as snail bodies, and drawn smiles. Fall leaf stickers and handwritten note: Crunchy leaves and apples too; a little fall snail says hello to you! Scattered markers and an apple nearby.

Fall is the perfect season to slow down and get a little crafty – and these apple stamped snails are exactly the kind of project that makes a cozy afternoon even better.

Each snail gets its shell from a real apple print, stamped right onto the paper for that gorgeous, textured look. A popsicle stick becomes the body, a few marker strokes bring the face to life, and just like that, you’ve got the cutest little crew of fall friends you’ve ever seen.

Pick up an apple, squeeze out some paint, and let’s get these little snails wandering across the page.

Craft Supplies:

Here’s everything to gather before you start:

  • Apples, cut in half (any variety works, but firmer apples hold up best)
  • Orange and red paint, washable for easy cleanup
  • Paper plates to hold your paint
  • Cardstock paper for your background
  • Jumbo popsicle sticks for the snail bodies
  • Markers for faces and antennae
  • Markers in green and brown for stems and little leaves
  • Glue for attaching the sticks
  • Fall-themed stickers or sequins like acorns, leaves, and pumpkins

That’s it! Most of these are probably already tucked in your craft drawer.

Directions:

  1. Slice your apples in half from top to bottom, then pat the cut side dry with a paper towel. A dry surface grabs the paint better and gives you a crisper print. Pour a puddle of orange paint onto one plate and red onto another so kids can pick their favorite shell color.
  2. Press the cut side of the apple into the paint, then firmly stamp it onto your cardstock paper. Give it a gentle wiggle to make sure the whole surface touches the paper, then lift straight up. You’ll get a beautiful round shell with all that lovely apple texture.
  3. Stamp three shells down the page, leaving room between each one for the bodies. Let them dry completely before moving on.
  4. Once the paint is dry, glue a half piece of popsicle stick horizontally along the bottom of each shell. This is your snail’s body! Point some sticks to the right and others to the left so your snails look like they’re wandering in different directions. Little details like that make the whole scene feel alive.
  5. Now for the cutest part. On the end of each popsicle stick, use a marker to draw two dot eyes and a curved smile. Then, just above each little face, add two curved lines on the paper for the antennae. Your snails are officially awake and ready to say hello.
  6. Grab your markers and give each apple shell a tiny stem and leaf at the top. A quick brown stem with a small green leaf turns your print into an unmistakable apple. These little touches add so much personality.
  7. Time to make it feel like true fall. Scatter your acorn, leaf, and pumpkin stickers or sequins around the snails. The metallic ones catch the light and give the whole piece a warm, glowing feel. Let kids place them wherever they like. There’s no wrong way to sprinkle in some autumn magic.
  8. Finish your masterpiece by writing a cheerful message in the empty space. Try the playful line “Slow + steady through the leaves” for a snail-inspired twist on an old favorite.
