Ready to stir up some spooky fun? This paper plate and puffy paint witch cauldron craft lets kids create a bubbling, glittery brew that pops right off the page. By the end, you’ll have a squishy, textured Halloween masterpiece perfect for the fridge, classroom wall, or a festive party table.
It’s easy, low-mess-ish (we promise), and endlessly customizable. Let’s get crafting!
Craft Supplies:
- Black paper plate – for the cauldron
- Purple cardstock or paper – your spooky background
- Elmer’s school glue – washable and kid-friendly
- Light green puffy paint – made from shaving cream + glue (recipe below!)
- Green and purple glitter or tinsel pom-poms – your magical bubbles
- Small black bat cutouts – for extra Halloween flair
- Wooden craft stick – for spreading the paint
- Scissors
Quick Puffy Paint Recipe:
- Mix equal parts shaving cream and school glue in a small cup.
- Stir until smooth, then add a few drops of green paint or food coloring. You want a thick, fluffy texture that holds its shape.
Directions:
- Cut the cauldron. Slice a black paper plate in half, then trim the straight edge slightly to round it into a pot shape. Set it near the bottom of your purple paper.
- Glue it down. Attach the cauldron to the lower half of the cardstock so the curved bottom faces down, just like a real potion pot.
- Mix your puffy paint. Stir up your shaving cream and glue mixture until it’s fluffy and green.
- Spread the brew. Use the wooden craft stick to spread the green puffy paint above the cauldron rim, building it up so it looks like bubbling potion spilling over the top.
- Add the bubbles. While the paint is still wet, press green and purple glitter pom-poms into the mixture. Scatter different sizes for a fun, magical effect.
- Decorate with bats. Tuck a few black bat cutouts into the wet paint and stick the rest around the purple background so they look like they’re flying off.
- Let it dry. Set your craft flat and let it dry fully. The puffy paint will keep its raised, spongy texture as it sets.
