Whether you are prepping for a spooky October or just looking for a wild addition to your afternoon story time, this Toothbrush Painted Werewolf is sure to be a “howling” success!
By trading in traditional brushes for a common household item, kids can create a unique, fuzzy texture that perfectly mimics werewolf fur. All it takes is some brown craft paint and a bit of “scrubbing” on paper to bring this creature to life. It’s a fantastic sensory activity that pairs wonderfully with books like The Underwear Wolf or any of your favorite woodland tales.
Ready to sink your teeth into a new project? Grab a spare toothbrush and let’s get crafting!
Craft Supplies:
Gather these simple supplies. You likely have most of them in your craft drawer already!
- Paint Brush
- Brown Craft Paint
- Light Blue Colored Cardstock Paper
- Brown Cardstock Paper
- Scissors
- School Glue
- Large Wiggle Eyes – two per craft
Directions:
Before you begin, adults may want to lay out newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to make cleanup easy and keep the workspace mess-free.
- First, squirt some brown paint in the center of your light blue colored cardstock. You don’t need a lot; the size of a quarter is a good starting point.
- Have children take their toothbrush – which is their “paint brush” and spread the paint ALL around to make the “fur” for their werewolf. Just make sure they keep the paint on the paper, but they can move it anywhere and in any design, shape, or angle they like to create that scruffy texture.
- Once they are done creating the “fur” set it aside.
- Grab the remaining cardstock paper and scissors.
- Cut out two pointy ears and a heart shaped nose.
- Finally, the last step of this toothbrush painted brown wolf craft: Glue all your cardstock pieces to the painted piece of paper to bring his face to life.
- Set aside to let it dry completely before displaying proudly!
