A paint splat craft resembling a kangaroo with googly eyes, large paper ears, and a round nose on blue paper. A bottle of brown fabric paint and polka dot paper are nearby. Text reads “Paint Splat Kangaroo Craft.”.

Get ready to hop into a fun and wonderfully messy art project! This paint splat kangaroo craft is the perfect activity for a creative afternoon. It combines the excitement of splat painting with the charm of one of Australia’s most famous animals. This simple and engaging craft allows kids to explore symmetry and texture while making their very own unique kangaroo.

This project is fantastic for developing fine motor skills and encouraging creativity. The magic happens when you fold the paper, squish the paint, and reveal a surprisingly symmetrical kangaroo shape. We’ll guide you through every step, from gathering your supplies to adding those final, personality-filled touches. Let’s get crafting!

Craft Supplies:

Before you begin your artistic adventure, gather a few simple craft supplies. Most of these items you might already have around the house, making this an easy and accessible project for everyone.

  • Free Kangaroo Printable – from box.com – password is GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS2026
  • Craft Paper: Light blue and light brown or tan construction paper are ideal.
  • Washable Paint: Brown is the main color for the kangaroo’s head
  • Googly Eyes: Two small googly eyes to bring your kangaroo to life.
  • Scissors: Kid-safe scissors for cutting out shapes.
  • Craft Glue: A glue stick or liquid school glue will work perfectly.

Directions:

Now for the exciting part – creating your paint splat kangaroo! Follow these simple steps and have fun with the process.

  • To start, download our free printable template. This template includes the kangaroo’s ears and nose – just print and cut them out for easy crafting! Print the template on regular printer paper or cardstock for sturdier pieces. Carefully cut out the ears and nose; younger children may need a bit of help with scissors. Once these pieces are ready, set them aside for assembly later in the project.
  • Next, we are going to prepare the paper. Start by taking a sheet of light blue construction paper. This will be the background for your kangaroo. Fold it in half vertically, making a crisp crease down the middle. Then, unfold it and lay it flat on your work surface. The crease will be your guide for the paint splat.
  • Open your bottle of brown washable paint. Squeeze a generous dollop of paint onto one side of the center crease. You can experiment with making a few smaller splats or one large one to see what kind of kangaroo shape you can create. Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to do this part!
  • Slowly open the folded paper to reveal your unique paint splat creation! You should see a symmetrical brown shape that will become your kangaroo’s head. Set the paper aside and allow the paint to dry completely. This might take a little while, so it’s a good time for a snack break or to prepare the other pieces of your craft.
  • Once the brown paint is completely dry, it’s time to assemble your kangaroo. Use your craft glue to attach the pieces you cut out earlier.
  • Glue the ears to the top of the paint splat, while the nose cutout in the center.
  • Now, let’s give your kangaroo some personality! Glue on the two googly eyes near the top of the head.
  • Go ahead and add any other embellishments you see fit and allow it to dry completely before you display it proudly for all to see!
