A Valentine's Day pizza craft inspired by the book "A Pizza My Heart." The craft features a circular cardboard base covered in pink puffy paint as "sauce," yellow shredded paper as "cheese," and red heart-shaped cutouts as "toppings." The setup includes a glue bottle, a bowl of pink paint, and additional heart cutouts, all displayed on a dark surface with the book nearby.

Who says pizza is just for eating? With a few simple supplies, your little ones can build their very own “pizza” topped with hearts instead of pepperoni. This craft is perfect for Valentine’s Day, a cozy afternoon at home, or a fun classroom activity. It’s messy in the best way, and kids love showing off their tasty-looking creations. Let’s get crafting!

Craft Supplies:

  • A circle of brown cardboard (this becomes your crust)
  • Pinkish-red puffy paint (made by mixing school glue, shaving cream, and a little red or pink paint)
  • A paintbrush or craft stick
  • Yellow crinkle paper or shredded paper (your “cheese”)
  • Red heart-shaped felt pieces (the “pepperoni”)
  • School glue, like Elmer’s washable glue
  • A small bowl or cup for paint
  • A protective tablecloth or newspaper

Let’s Make a Pizza!

  1. Set up your space. Lay down a tablecloth or some newspaper to keep things tidy. Roll up sleeves and get ready for happy, messy fun.

Make the puffy paint sauce. In a small bowl, mix school glue and shaving cream together, then stir in a little pink or red paint to get that perfect sauce color. Using a paintbrush or craft stick, spread your puffy paint mixture across the cardboard circle. Try to cover most of the crust, but leave a thin edge around the outside. That little border makes it look just like a real pizza!

  1. Add the cheese. While the paint is still wet, sprinkle yellow crinkle paper all over the top. Press it down gently so it sticks. If some spots need a little help, dab on a bit of glue.
  2. Place the pepperoni. Add small drops of glue where you want your heart-shaped felt pieces to go. Then press each red heart firmly onto the “cheese.” Space them out so every slice gets a topping.
  3. Let it dry. Set your pizza aside in a safe spot and give it time to dry completely. This is a great moment to read a fun pizza-themed book together while you wait.
  4. Show it off! Once dry, hang your masterpiece on the fridge or display it proudly. No oven required!

Cleanup and Safety Tips

  • Use washable, no-run glue and paint to make cleanup easy.
  • Keep a damp cloth or some baby wipes nearby for sticky little fingers – shaving cream and glue can get wonderfully messy!
  • An adult should always supervise younger children, especially when handling glue, shaving cream, and small felt pieces.
  • Wash brushes and cups right away so the puffy paint mixture doesn’t dry and harden.
