Valentine’s Day dog craft on black paper using white paint, black paper ears, heart cutouts, and a paint roller. A Charlie Brown Valentine book is in the corner. ©GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS is written on the paper.

Looking for a craft that turns an ordinary kitchen tool into something magical? This potato masher stamped dog project is exactly that!

The best part? The grid pattern on the masher leaves a sweet textured print that looks just like fluffy fur. Add some floppy ears, a button nose, and a sprinkle of colorful hearts, and you’ve got a Valentine’s Day keepsake that’s bursting with charm. It’s perfect for classrooms, playdates, or a cozy afternoon at home.

Craft Supplies:

Gather these simple materials before you start:

  • Grey construction paper – your background canvas
  • White paint – washable works best for little hands
  • A potato masher – the star of the show
  • A red paper plate – to hold your paint
  • Black construction paper – for the floppy ears
  • Black circle stickers – the perfect puppy noses
  • Foam heart decorations – in pinks, reds, and purples
  • Glue – a glue stick or school glue both work great

Tip: Cover your table with newspaper or a wipeable mat. This craft is fun, but it can get a little messy!

Directions:

Step 1: Prepare Your Paint

Pour a small puddle of white paint onto your red paper plate. Spread it out just enough so the potato masher can pick up an even coat. You don’t need much paint at all.

Step 2: Stamp the Dog Faces

Dip the bottom of the potato masher into the white paint, making sure the grid pattern gets covered. Then press it firmly onto your grey construction paper and lift straight up. Tada! You’ll see a circle with a cool lattice texture that looks just like fur.

Repeat this two or three times across the page so you have a few puppy faces to decorate. Let the paint dry for a few minutes before moving on.

Step 3: Cut the Floppy Ears

While the paint dries, cut long, rounded ear shapes from your black construction paper. Each dog needs two ears. Don’t worry about making them perfect, floppy and uneven ears give each pup its own personality!

Step 4: Glue On the Ears

Once the stamped circles are dry, glue one ear on each side of every face. You can angle them up, let them hang down, or mix it up for a playful look. This is where your dogs really start to come to life.

Step 5: Add the Noses

Peel off a black circle sticker and press it onto the center or lower part of each face. Just like that, your puppies have cute little noses ready for sniffing out Valentine’s treats.

Step 6: Decorate & Display

Go ahead and add any other embellishments you see fit. Then allow your piece to dry completely before displaying proudly for all to see!

Craft supplies, a glue bottle, a bowl, and a dog book are nearby. @GLUETOMYCRAFTS. A handmade card with two brown dog faces crafted from textured paint, googly eyes, and drawn features. It’s a sweet cupcake liner card craft that says “I ‘ruff’ you a lot!” Small red hearts and a potato masher add extra charm.

And there you have it, a page full of friendly puppy faces made with nothing more than a potato masher and a little imagination! This craft is wonderful for building fine motor skills, sparking creativity, and celebrating Valentine’s Day in a hands-on way.

Hang the finished artwork on the fridge, gift it to a grandparent, or pair it with a cozy story-and-craft combo. However you use it, your little artists will love seeing their stamped pups come to life. Happy crafting, my friends!
