Valentine’s Day butterfly craft made from a popsicle stick, heart doilies, googly eyes, felt hearts, and red gems—perfect for those seeking fun Valentine’s Day craft ideas for kids. Surrounded by extra craft supplies and decorations on a table.

Looking for a sweet little craft that’s full of heart? This adorable butterfly puppet is the perfect Valentine’s Day project for little hands. With just a few simple supplies, kids can build a fluttery friend they’ll want to show off to everyone. It’s quick, mess-free, and the smiles it brings are guaranteed!

This craft works great at home, in the classroom, or as a fun party activity. Let’s flutter into the fun!

Craft Supplies:

Gather these easy supplies before you start:

  • Popsicle/craft sticks (one per butterfly)
  • Heart-shaped paper doilies in red, pink, or white (two per butterfly)
  • Googly eyes (two per butterfly)
  • Red or purple cardstock (for the antennae)
  • Red adhesive rhinestones (for sparkle!)
  • Glue stick (Elmer’s washable works perfectly)
  • Black marker (for drawing the smile)

Directions:

Step 1: Set Up the Butterfly Body

Grab one craft stick and lay it flat on your work surface, standing it up tall like a tree trunk. This will be your butterfly’s body. Easy start, right?

Step 2: Attach the Heart Doily Wings

Take your two heart-shaped doilies and add a little glue to the back of each one. Press them onto the sides of the craft stick, pointing outward like open wings. Hold them in place for a few seconds so they stick nicely. Now your butterfly is starting to take shape!

Step 3: Cut and Add the Antennae

Cut two thin, curved strips from your red or purple cardstock. Round the tips to give them cute little bulb ends. Add a dab of glue to the bottom of each strip, then attach them to the back of the top of the craft stick so they peek up over the head.

Step 4: Glue On the Googly Eyes

Add a small dot of glue near the top of the craft stick. Press on two googly eyes side by side. This is the moment your butterfly really comes to life!

Step 5: Draw a Happy Smile

Using your black marker, draw a simple curved smile just below the eyes. A cheerful grin makes your butterfly extra friendly and fun.

Step 6: Decorate with Rhinestones

Now for the sparkle! Peel off your red adhesive rhinestones and stick them onto the doily wings. Try placing about five on each wing in a matching pattern. Let kids get creative here, there’s no wrong way to add a little shine.
