Winter brings chilly winds and frosty windows, making it the perfect season to gather inside for cozy activities. This torn paper craft is a wonderful way to spend a cold afternoon with your family. It’s a simple, creative project that results in a beautiful piece of art with a heartfelt message: “You Warm My Heart.”

This activity is not just about making something pretty; it’s about the process. It’s a fantastic sensory experience for little hands and a great way to develop fine motor skills. Plus, with our free printable template, getting started is easier than ever. Let’s gather our supplies and create something special to warm up our homes and hearts.

Craft Supplies:

Before we dive into the fun, let’s collect all the materials for our cozy craft session. You likely have most of these items around the house already, which makes this an easy and affordable project for any winter day.

  • Construction Paper {red and a choice of color for the card}
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Mitten Printable – from our landing page
  • School Glue
  • Crayons, Markers or Coloring Pencils
  • Embellishments

Directions:

Ready to “warm up” some fun? Find a comfortable spot to work. This craft is perfect for a chilly afternoon indoors!

  • First things first – download and print the free blank “You Warm My Heart” mitten printable on a single sheet of white cardstock. Have the kids cut out both mitten shapes as well as the wording box with scissors. Set aside all the pieces for later.
  • Next, take a piece of construction paper. With your child, help them draw a large heart right in the center of the paper. This heart will be the focal point where your torn paper will go.
  • Let your child use red construction paper and tear it into small pieces – irregular edges work perfectly for added charm! Once you have a pile of torn pieces, spread a thin layer of school glue inside the drawn heart shape. Help your child fill in the heart completely by pressing the red torn paper pieces onto the glued area, covering all the space inside the heart.
  • Now it’s time to complete your creation! Glue one mitten cutout on each side of the heart so they look like they’re hugging it. Then, glue the wording box (“You Warm My Heart”) underneath the heart for a sweet finishing touch.
  • Allow the finished picture to dry completely before displaying it proudly or gifting it to someone special.
