Spooky fun for kids with an easy mummy paper bag puppet craft!

Halloween is just around the corner, and it’s the perfect time for kids to get creative with fun and spooky crafts. If you’re looking for a simple yet exciting project to keep your little ones entertained, we’ve got just the thing for you. Introducing our Paper Bag Mummy craft tutorial—an easy, enjoyable, and mess-free activity that kids will love making and showing off.

In this post, we’ll guide you through the steps to create your own paper bag and crepe paper mummy. You’ll learn what materials you’ll need, how to assemble the mummy, and even some fun ways to customize it!

Craft Supplies:

  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Mummy Printable – on our landing page
  • Large Googly Eyes – two per craft
  • Scissors
  • School Glue or Glue Stick
  • Brown Paper Bag
  • White Crepe Paper
  • optional materials: craft paint & paint brushes

Directions:

  • First things first – download and print out the provided “mummy head” printable, on a single sheet of white cardstock paper. You only need ONE print per Halloween mummy craft. If desired, color in the printable but we left ours blank for the example images.
  • Use scissors to trim out the head shape. Discard excess paper.
  • Next up – lay your brown paper bag on a flat surface with the flap of the bag facing upwards.
  • For customization on this craft, you can paint the paper bag before adding the crepe paper “wraps.” A light shade of green, black or purple would be great for Halloween. I choose to keep our example pictures as simple as possible but please feel free to run wild with our original idea!
  • When ready to start bring your mummy to life, glue on the head cutout to the flap of the bag, along with the two wiggle eyes.
  • Finally, the last step is to cut/tear off several strips of white crepe paper and glue them to the body of the paper bag. You will want them to overlap each other.
  • And that’s it! Let it dry completely in an undisturbed area.
  • When done decorating your lunch sack, display your awesome brown paper bag mummy craft piece proudly for all to see or use it as a puppet!
