Create a Paper Plate Sugar Skull with Tissue Paper & Glue

As the Day of the Dead approaches, it’s a great time to celebrate with family and friends by crafting colorful decorations. Get your kids involved in the festivities with this simple but fun paper plate sugar skull craft idea!

This easy project works well for younger children and will provide hours of creative entertainment. You can also use it as an educational tool to help your kids develop their artistic skills or learn about Latin American culture and traditions.

With some basic supplies such as tissue paper, paper plates, markers, school glue, and scissors—you’ll then be able to create these vibrantly vibrant skulls that you can proudly display on a wall or mantel during the holiday season!

Paper Plate Day of the Dead Craft

Get ready to bring the spirit of Dia de los Muertos alive with this fun and easy Paper Plate Sugar Skull craft! It’s fun for kids of all ages!

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate
  • Tissue Paper
  • Sugar Skull Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Markers
  • Craft Scissors
  • School Glue

Directions:

  • First things first – grab your school glue and put a good amount ALL over the paper plate.
  • Grab your various colors of tissue paper and scissors.
  • Cut the tissue paper into small squares and layer them on top of the wet school glue, until the paper plate is completely covered.
  • Now grab the printout and your markers.
  • Color in the various designs in the printable.
  • When ready, trim out each piece and discard excess paper.
  • To finish off the Paper Plate Sugar Skull – glue the paper pieces in place. Start with the skull’s eyes and work down.
  • Add other embellishments {maybe some sequins or glitter glue!} you see fit and display proudly for all to see!
