Fingerprint Christmas Lights & String Height Ornament

Fingerprint Christmas Lights & String Height Ornament

The holiday season is the perfect time to slow down and connect with your little ones through creative, heartfelt activities. What better way to do this than with a craft project that serves as both a festive decoration and a nostalgic keepsake?

This guide will show you how to recreate our Fingerprint Christmas Lights and a String Height Ornament—a fun, kid-friendly DIY craft that you’ll treasure forever.

Whether you’re looking to create priceless gifts for family or simply add some personal flair to your holiday decorations, this craft idea is super easy, affordable, and—most importantly—filled with holiday cheer!

Fingerprint Christmas Lights & String Height Ornament

This personalized ornament is as meaningful as it is festive. The simple concept records your child’s height using string and turns it into a beautiful keepsake for the tree!

Craft Supplies:

  • FREE POEM PRINTABLE – from our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Washable Craft Paint
  • Scissors
  • Contact Paper
  • String
  • Hole Punch
  • Ribbon
  • Hot Glue Gun or Foam Glue Dots

Directions:

  • To recreate this fingerprint lights and height ornament – simply download our FREE PRINTABLE and print it out on a single sheet of white cardstock paper.
  • Next grab some washable craft paint and have kids “dab” their lights to life by using their index finger to fill in each of the light bulbs in the printable.
  • Allow it to dry completely before moving on.
  • Next up – trim out the ornament from the printable and laminate it with some contact paper.
  • Add a hole punch to the top of the ornament.
  • String some ribbon through that hole for easy hanging on the tree.
  • Now take some string and measure your child with it from head to toe.
  • Using scissors, trim down the string to the same exact size of them your child.
  • Go ahead and fold/tie that very string piece into a nice bow design.
  • Attach the finished “bow” to the front of the laminated ornament using a little bit of hot glue OR a foam craft dot. Hot glue will make it permanent while a foam dot will not.
  • Go ahead and add any other embellishments you see fit.
  • Then display and/or gift away or “once I was little” keepsake ornament!
