How to Make Fake Snow with Baking Soda and Shaving Cream

A cute paper yeti with snowflakes and a blue spoon sits on a pile of white, fluffy faux snow. The Instagram handle @GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS appears in bold text at the bottom right.

Dreaming of a winter wonderland but stuck indoors? This DIY fake snow recipe is the perfect way to bring frosty fun to your home—no freezing temperatures required! Whether you’re looking for a fun sensory activity, a creative holiday craft, or just a way to entertain the kids, this easy-to-make snow is soft, moldable, and oh-so-realistic.

Important Note:Ā While this snow is made from safe, non-toxic ingredients, it’sĀ notĀ meant for eating. So, keep it away from curious little mouths and enjoy the fun hands-on!

A can of Barbasol shaving cream stands next to a SpongeBob-themed box of Arm & Hammer pure baking soda. A @GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS label is at the bottom right of the image.

What You’ll Need:

  • Baking SodaĀ (1 cup)
  • Shaving CreamĀ (unscented, foamy type—not gel)
  • AĀ mixing bowl
  • AĀ spoonĀ or your hands (for mixing)

Four images show a fluffy, snow-like craft material on a black tray, being handled with a blue tool and by hand. The last image includes a cute paper yeti decoration and a snowflake, with @GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS visible.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Prepare Your Workspace
Lay down some newspaper or a plastic sheet to keep your area clean. This project can get a little messy, but that’s part of the fun!

  2. Measure the Baking Soda
Pour 1 cup of baking soda into your mixing bowl. You can adjust the quantity depending on how much snow you want to make.

  3. Add the Shaving Cream
Slowly squirt shaving cream into the bowl. Start with about 1/4 cup and add more as needed.

  4. Mix It Up
Use a spoon or your hands to mix the baking soda and shaving cream together. Keep mixing until the texture resembles fluffy snow. It should feel soft, moldable, and slightly cool to the touch.

  5. Adjust the Consistency
If the mixture feels too dry, add a little more shaving cream. If it’s too sticky, sprinkle in more baking soda. Play around until you get the perfect snow-like texture.

  6. Play or Decorate!

    • For Play:Ā Let kids mold snowballs, build mini snowmen, or just squish it for sensory fun.
    • For Decor:Ā Use the snow to create a winter scene in a jar or sprinkle it around holiday decorations.

And there you have it – your very own batch of fluffy, moldable fake snow! Whether you’re building tiny snowmen, creating a wintery scene, or just enjoying the cool, soft texture, this DIY project is sure to bring smiles and spark creativity. Best of all, it’s a mess you won’t mind cleaning up!

So, gather your supplies, let your imagination run wild, and enjoy a little winter magic – no mittens required. Happy snow-making!
