There’s something extra sweet about a peach with googly eyes. This paper plate peach is one of those easy crafts that keeps little hands busy and always turns out adorable. The best part? Every single peach comes out a little different, thanks to our favorite messy-fun paint splat technique.
This one is perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary kids. It works great at home on a rainy afternoon or in a classroom with a whole group. Craft Supplies:
Gather these supplies before you start. Most of them are probably already in your craft bin.
- 1 large white paper plate (per child)
- Light orange craft paint (washable is best!)
- Orange loose craft glitter
- 2 large googly eyes
- Scissors
- Brown/green cardstock paper
- Stapler
- Newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to protect your table
Lay down newspaper or a tablecloth to catch any drips. Give each child a paper plate and roll up those sleeves. If you’re working with a group, set out the paint and glitter in shared spots so everyone can reach.
Directions:
- Fold your paper plate in half, then open it back up. Squeeze a few blobs of orange or peach paint onto one side of the plate. You don’t need to cover the whole thing. Random dots and splats work perfectly and give the peach its soft, fuzzy, real-life look.
- Now for the best part. Have the kids gently fold the plate back together and smoosh and squish the paint inside. Let them press all over the surface to spread the color around.
- Help them open the plate back up to reveal the “splat” design inside. This is always the moment that gets the biggest giggles. Every peach looks unique!
- Mess-free option: Prefer to keep little hands clean? Slide the paper plate into a large ziplock bag, then squeeze the paint blobs inside before sealing it up. Kids can press and smoosh the bag to spread the paint, and their hands stay totally clean. When they’re done, carefully slide the plate out.
- While the paint is still wet, sprinkle bronze or copper glitter over the top. The wet paint acts like glue and holds the sparkle in place. Shake off the extra over a piece of paper so you can pour it back into the container. Now your peach is shimmering and pretty!
- Cut a small rectangle from brown cardstock for the stem and a simple leaf shape from green cardstock. Attach the stem to the top rim of the plate, then staple the green leaf right beside it. Little ones may need a hand with the stapler here.
- Once the glitter has settled, add a dab of glue near the center of the plate and press on two large googly eyes. Just like that, your peach comes alive with a friendly, silly face. Let everything dry completely before moving it.
