Father’s Day gives us a wonderful excuse to break out the craft supplies and make something special.
Homemade gifts hold a unique place in a dad’s heart, especially when little hands make them. We are putting a fun, oceanic spin on our popular torn paper series with this “You’re Jelly-tastic!” jellyfish craft.
Tearing paper is fantastic for building fine motor skills in younger kids, and the end result is a colorful, textured masterpiece that Dad will love showing off.

Here’s what you’ll need for your ripped paper jellyfish craft:
- “JELLY-TASTIC” PRINTABLE – from our landing page

These materials are inexpensive and readily available. If you don’t have construction paper, feel free to use magazine pages, gift wrapping paper, or even old catalogs. Mix and match textures for extra fun!

- Next help your child cut/tear their choice of colored construction paper into small pieces.
- Grab the school glue and help them put a good amount inside the jellyfish design.
- Have children place their paper pieces on top of the glue {adding more if needed} until it’s is completely filled in.
- Set out a small amount of washable paint in a color your child likes. Invite your child to dip their thumb (or fingertip) lightly into the paint and press along each tentacle line, creating a row of colorful fingerprints.
- The final step is to add the two wiggle eyes and any other embellishments they see fit {we added small heart stickers to ours!}
- And just like that, your Torn Paper Jellyfish craft is complete! Set aside to let it all dry completely before displaying/gifting your child’s handmade jelly-tastic card proudly!
Make it Special for Dad:
You can easily customize this craft to fit the special guy in your life. Here are a few ways to personalize your jellyfish:
- Use his favorite colors: If Dad loves sports, tear up paper in his favorite team’s colors to decorate the jellyfish.
- Add a custom note: Flip the cardstock over and let your child write a personal message or list a few reasons why they think Dad is so “jelly-tastic.”
- Make it 3D: Instead of drawing the tentacles, glue down pieces of yarn, ribbon, or crepe paper streamers so they hang off the bottom of the page.
Take a photo of their finished masterpiece and share it on social media to spread the creative spirit!
