Christmas Poinsettia Photo Ornament Craft

Get festive this season with an adorable homemade Christmas flower ornament! Let the little ones have some extra special holiday fun by creating a DIY poinsettia photo ornament – they’ll love it!

Christmas Poinsettia Photo Ornament Craft

Turn holiday memories into keepsakes with this fun Christmas poinsettia photo ornament craft! Kids will love making these festive decorations and it’s the perfect way to remember this special season.

Craft Supplies:

  • Flower Ornament – on our landing page
  • Red Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors
  • School Glue
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Clear Contact Paper
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Single Hole Punch
  • Ribbon or String
  • Printed Picture
  • Embellishments

Directions:

  • First things first – download the free poinsettia printable listed above in the supply list.
  • Print out the provided file on a single sheet of red cardstock paper {or any colored paper instead!}
  • Use scissors to trim out one of the flower shapes. Go ahead and also cut out the circle design in the middle as well.
  • Next up – adding the glitter. Use school glue to draw lines on the flower design. Shake loose craft glitter on top and shake off excess.
  • Now the step is IMPORTANT. Allow the paper flower piece to dry completely before moving on. I repeat – let it dry completely.
  • When it’s completely dry, cut off two pieces of clear contact paper.
  • Peel the backing off of one piece of contact paper and lay it down, sticky side up, on your work surface.
  • Lay the flower cutout on top of the contact paper, facing towards you.
  • Trim down your picture so it fits inside the ornament. Lay it inside the design.
  • If desired, sprinkle some loose craft glitter now on top, to fill in blank spots and add even more sparkle.
  • Now peel the backing off the second piece of contact paper and lay it on top of the first.
  • Use your hand to make sure everything is sealed together and that no bubbles exist. Since you added glitter, you will REALLY want to make sure it’s sealed together.
  • When ready, use scissors to trim off the excess contact paper from around the edges.
  • For the final touch, hold punch a hole on top and string some string through it for easy hanging.
  • Now display/gift away proudly your child’s beautiful holiday flower photo ornament piece!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
