First things first - the basic foundation of this craft was taking my blue cardstock and some simple gold/brown Puffy Paint to make the "sand" on the bottom of the "ocean" on paper. This, I believe, really sets the scene. {Although I believe wholeheartedly in the Tulip brand, you can also use other craft paint for this DIY. And if the paint splat step is too much for you, skip my suggested step and instead draw on wavy lines with some basic brown/tan crayons instead!}
So... making the puffy paint beach sand scene. Just fold your cardstock paper in half, open back up and squirt a few lines of gold and brown paint squiggles with ON ONE SIDE, ONE CORNER OF THE PAPER before closing up the cardstock again.
Once the paper is closed for the second time, gently take your hand and "caress" the paint around inside, so it makes a fun symmetrical "sand" print design on both sides of the paper {keep in mind - paint might ooze from the sides of the cardstock, so be sure to work in an area that can get dirty!}
Now you are ready to open it back up and see the BEGINNING of what your beachy day scene will be. From there you decorate it with your various mixed media materials {like cardstock, scrapbook paper, stickers etc}
So start off by creating an umbrella for your scene. Just cut a half circle for the top and then a thin rectangle/stick for the bottom. Glue those to your piece. With the remaining paper, add a rectangle blanket as well.
Once finished, add any other embellishments you like {don't forget a sun in the corner and those beach themed stickers!} Then set aside to let it dry completely, before displaying proudly! And of course - repeat as many times as you like! No two pieces will be the same and I think that's what makes it even more fun!
