Handprint Poinsettia Flower Keepsake Craft For Kids To Make This Christmas!
The poinsettia flower is such a staple during the Christmas season. You pretty much see these beautiful red and green foliage everywhere you go during the holidays.
For me personally, seeing a poinsettia plant brings so many good memories to mind. My husband and I have been married for 13 years now {December wedding anniversary} and I honestly don’t think there has ever been a year he hasn’t bought me one for on the kitchen table. Now that I type that out, this particular flower means even more to me now.
Anyways – back on topic!
Today’s Christmas kids craft tutorial is a simple paper winter flower activity, that has paper handprint leaves as the star of the show, so you have the perfect excuse to place the finished piece in a scrapbook or even frame it for safe keeping. Maybe you could even make it become part of your holiday decor, that you can enjoy year after year, so you can reflect on it as time goes by. I just know it’s going to be well loved no matter what your plans are with the lovely finished piece, so be sure to make a few extra of this handprint poinsettia craft with the kids, so they can gift one to loved ones as well! Instant gift idea – hint hint!

Directions:
- First things first – download and print our FREE poinsettia flower printable listed above in the supply list. You only need one printable per Christmas flower piece. Feel free to print as many as you like but the free file is only for PERSONAL USE or in a classroom setting.
- Once you have the file printed out, grab your choice of RED coloring medium and scissors.
- Have children color in the flower in the printable completely red.
- When you are done, cut out the colored in flower shape and discard excess paper.
- Now grab your green cardstock paper, a pen and your scissors again.
- Using the pen, trace both of your child’s hands on the green cardstock paper.
- Go ahead and cut out the two traced handprint designs.
- Again, discard excess paper afterwards.
- Now we are ready to start assembling the poinsettia! Grab a sheet of gray cardstock, all the paper cutouts and your choice of adhesive.
- Start off by gluing down the handprint “leaves” to the paper. Just envision where you are want the flower to be.
- Follow that up by gluing down the colored flower in the center of the gray cardstock.
- Finally – take the gold glitter glue and add some sparkle to the center of the poinsettia flower. You/they can either trace the lines that are already there or do a unique design instead.
- When you are done, add any other embellishments you see fit {like some small Christmas stickers all around} and allow the paper flower piece to dry completely before you gift and/or display it proudly.
- Don’t forget to share pictures with us if you can! We can’t wait to see how your handprint poinsettia flower turns out! #gluedtomycrafts
Make It Your Own:
- Don’t forget – you can easily turn this idea into a gift by framing the finished piece in a beautiful 8×10″ or 11×14″ frame. Just follow the above steps and then place it in a frame like you normally would.
- This finished piece would also look great as a scrapbook page. Just glue it down to the center of a large piece of 12×12″ paper and slide it all into a clear protective sleeve.
- You can also make the beautiful finished paper flower piece into a card within minutes. Follow the above steps but add the finished craft to the front of large piece of poster board folded in half.
- Don’t have a printer? No worries either! You can always hand-drawn a flower design on regular computer paper and still complete the craft the same way. Although I love sharing tutorials with free printables {I love making it super easy for my readers} it always makes my crafty heart happy when I see people draw their own ideas from our posts!
