Christmas Gnome Scoop Stick Puppets – Kid Craft
Moms – there is NO need to pull out your hair when it comes to pulling a good holiday craft together for your child. I’m here to help you out with our latest & greatest Christmas gnome puppet tutorial, that is not only super easy BUT also super trendy this year! Gnomes have really taken over everything as far as merchandise this year and I’m encouraging you to bring your own versions, into your home today as well!
Using inexpensive wooden scoop sticks, a little craft paint and some colored cardstock, you too can get in the holiday spirit by joining your child in the fun, by making your own gnome puppet {right along side them} within minutes!
I’ll show you how in the full tutorial below, along with a few links to similar supplies! Keep scrolling to see the magic happen but don’t blink – it’s super fast! Then after you are done, I highly encourage to make them just like I did for puppet play OR hot glue ribbon to the back to turn them into ornaments for the tree or for your gifting needs. Christmas Gnome Puppet Craft Supplies:
* Wood Ice Cream Scoop Sticks {similar on Amazon – one per gnome puppet}
* Tempera Paint Crayons {similar on Amazon}
* Holiday Print Scrapbook Paper
* White Cardstock
* Light Tan Colored Cardstock Paper
* Paper Craft Scissors
* School Glue
* Black Sharpie Marker
optional materials – small holiday stickers, rhinestones, glitter glue etc.
Directions:
* First take your choice of color in paint stick and paint one half of the wood scoop stick to represent the body of the gnome {but make sure you don’t paint the head/face in – you want that to stay skin toned.}
* When done coloring on the scoop stick, set it aside.
* Grab another scoop stick and repeat for each gnome you want to make today.
* While those are drying, go ahead and cut out a long beard out of the white cardstock, a small oval from the tan cardstock for a nose and a small triangle hat from the scrapbook paper. You only need one piece of each, per gnome puppet.
* To finish off the Scoop Stick Christmas Gnomes, use the school glue to glue on their hats and beard on the side of the scoop stick that wasn’t painted. Follow that up with the small nose.
* Take the black Sharpie marker and draw on a few buttons to give it some dimension.
* Add other embellishments you see fit {maybe some small stickers on their hats!}
* Then let it all dry completely before you play and/or display proudly.
* For playing like a puppet – simply hold it on the bottom end with your fingers.
* For an ornament or gift tag – hot glue some ribbon to the back.
* You can also stick these in a potted flower pot or in a fairy garden.
