Halloween Dog Craft Made From Paper Plate
These days, dogs look just as cute in Halloween costumes as kids do. Am I right?!
And who says our adorable canine friends can’t go trick-or-treating on Halloween night as well?! On that note, that’s exactly what inspired my latest trick-or-treater puppy kid craft idea made from a simple paper plate and small gift bag!
It’s another one of those quirky and unique ideas that I came up with for Glued To My Crafts recently and I sure hope you see my vision & absolutely love it as much as I do! There’s nothing like this on the web, so be sure to bookmark it for safekeeping, in case you need to refer back to it the coming weeks {because I know you are going to want to recreate it – hint hint!}
My adorably dressed up trick-or-treater dog craft is perfect for those who may be looking for something more on the “cute” side versus the gory side we typically see this time of year. I could easily see this art project idea being brought into the classroom with no fear or tears! Plus if you display several completed Halloween dressed up puppies on a large bulletin board, you can then use the small gift bags to fill them with various treats like a mailbox!
On that note, our paper plate Halloween dog is waiting for you to make, love and share him! Don’t forget you can change up the colors and/or theme so it reflects a certain breed or pet you have at home!
Find all the crafty details below for this paper plate dog idea and recreate one with your child today. He might be dressed up in a costume for Halloween night but let’s face it… this could easily be a great paper craft activity for any day of the fall season! So don’t feel limited by my idea!
Happy crafting, my friends! Don’t forget to share pictures of your finished bark-tastic paper Halloween dog craft with us! You can find us on Facebook or use our special branded #gluedtomycrafts hashtag for us to find & share from!
PAIR YOUR DOG CRAFT WITH —> Cotton Ball Ghost Cupcake
Craft Supplies:
- Large Paper Plate {one per Halloween dog craft}
- Craft Paint {I used brown}
- Foam Paint Brush
- White Cardstock
- Tan/Kraft Colored Cardstock Paper
- Dark Brown Colored Cardstock Paper
- Orange Colored Cardstock Paper
- Paper Craft Scissors
- Black Sharpie Marker
- School Glue or Glue Stick
- Hand-Held Office Stapler
- Small Gift Bag {the Target dollar spot is great for grabbing some!}
- embellishments like Halloween stickers, glitter glue etc.
Directions:
- First things first – painting the paper plate for your trick-or-treater dog. Grab your paper plate and choice of color in craft paint.
- Go ahead and paint your paper plate with some craft paint. I used a shade of dark brown but any color will do!
- When done painting, set aside the plate to allow it to dry completely.
- Now grab all of your cardstock paper, along with the scissors.
- Cut out ears, eyes and a large oval shape for the dog snout, as well as a small jack-o-lantern “pumpkin” hat for on top. It might seem overwhelming at first but please use our picture above to get your creative juices flowing.
- Use the black Sharpie marker to draw on the eyes, nose and anything else you might need for your dog friend.
- When ready – it’s time to assemble!
- Grab all your paper pieces, the painted paper plate and of course the gift bag.
- Use your stapler and/or glue to secure the paper pieces in place, on the paper plate. I found that it’s easier to start with the ears and then work downward on the plate. The mouth and gift bag should be last.
- When you ready for his “mouth” simply staple the oval shape on the bottom of the plate, slightly over the lip and then add the gift bag on the back of that, to give the look that he is holding it in his mouth.
- Add any other embellishments you see fit to give your costume dressed dog a custom look. Make him be dressed to impress his friends! You can also dress up the gift bag!
- Allow everything to dry completely before you display it proudly for all to see.
- Snap a few pictures and share your paper plate Halloween puppy with us! I can’t wait to see how you made it your own! #gluedtomycrafts
Make It Your Own Today – don’t have a small gift bag to use for this craft? No fears! You can also cut a basic rectangle shape from scrapbook paper and staple on some ribbon for handles, to make a bag. It won’t be 3-D and usable like mine but it will get the job done {it might even be cuter!}
