A Gentle Reminder – Close The Lid Bathroom Vinyl Project
DIY Close The Lid Vinyl Decals
Raise your hand if you constantly have to remind your child to close the lid on the toilet when they are done.
Anyone? I’m sure I’m not the only one. Especially in the boy mom community. Right?
Sorry of my life. Daily.
Anyways – recently a friend of mine shared some pictures of her Cricut vinyl project on Facebook and I was truly inspired by her “gentle reminder” idea. It really resonated with me {A LOT!} After I closed my mouth in aw, I asked her if I could share some pictures of her finished project on Glued To My Crafts. She said yes {shout out to her!} and here we are today.
Although I personally did not make this genius idea on my own {just YET because I have plans on it when we move next year!} I sure do hope these images from her, can inspire you to give it a try too. By the looks of it, it should be really easy to recreate, even for the novice crafter.
Below you will find some basic suggestions on the supplies and directions to create your own today. Again, I personally did not create this {yet} but if you are familiar with the Cricut machine, you probably already know what to do from here. This “close the lid” vinyl post is just for inspiration and hopefully a good starting point for you. Yours might look different from these pictures and it could even be a trial & error project 🙂
So my dears… find a few details below so you can make a vinyl decal for your toilet today! HA! That seems silly to write but I really do hope WE inspired you! Happy crafting, my friends. If you do make one for your toilet {or all the toilets in your home} please feel free to share pictures with us. It would make mine, as well as my friend’s day to see who we inspired! #gluedtomycrafts

Craft Supplies:
- Cricut Maker Machine
- Cricut Design Space App
- Black Permanent Cricut Vinyl
- Cricut Standard Grip Transfer Tape
- Weeding Tools
- Cricut Scraper
Directions:
- Again, I’m going to repeat, I personally did not come up with this idea. I’m going to write some basic steps on what I “think” she did for hers. Bare with me. This will be a project you will have to play with on your own. It’s just for inspiration 🙂 I highly suggest playing around with your machine and using computer paper till you have the design/shape you want.
- First things first – you are obviously going to get the Cricut Design Space App up and running on your choice of device.
- Start a new project.
- Hit the text function and search for a font you want to use. I found that Bayamo, Ballette and Adalaide from Cricut, were VERY close to what she used.
- Type out the words “Close The Lid” but make double spaces between each word, so you can later add the hearts in between.
- Now you are going to curve the text slightly. In the app, click the curve button. Move the point to the left or right depending on if you want your text to curve upwards or downwards.
- Once I had the words curved the way I thought they should be, I added some small basic hearts {from the basic shapes section} in between the wording. I played around with the placement of them, until I had the look I liked.
- When ready – load up your mat with the permanent vinyl and cut it all out using the machine.
- Use the tools to weed out the design.
- When the excess vinyl is gone, add transfer tape on top of the finished design and rub it with the scraper. You should be able to pull up the design now.
- Now this might be an obvious step but I have to say it. Before you put your vinyl on the toilet seat, make sure it’s extra clean. Run a Clorox wipe over the seat and then make sure it’s completely dry. This way your vinyl won’t be going ANYWHERE, ANYTIME soon.
- Grab your vinyl design on the transfer tape. Eyeball where you want the vinyl to go {remember you only get one shot at this!}
- Place your piece on the toilet seat.
- Use the Cricut scraper to rub the vinyl, all over, so it will stick onto the seat.
- When ready, carefully remove the transfer tape and your vinyl design should be staying in place.
- And that’s it! Admire your work and clean & use as normal!

And that’s a wrap! Like I said, I truly hope my quick post and pictures inspires you to recreate something clever for your toilet seat today {HA! I never thought I would write that on our website!}
Seriously though – isn’t it such a fun idea?! I was just telling my husband how excited I am to vinyl ALL THE THINGS when we move next summer. My back car window already looks like a kid put stickers ALL over it since I went a little crazy with the “vinyl” cutouts. But you know what? I love it!
Anyways – if you want a few more project ideas to make with your Cricut Maker Machine today, may I suggest you check out our Green Eggs & Ham Shirt and Grilling Apron posts!
