Let’s blast off today with our Important Crew Member paper card craft tutorial!
It’s perfect for ANY day of the year, where you can celebrate that special “out of this world” person” in your life!
Do you have someone in your life that you just couldn’t “live” without? That one person that is just out of this world amazing?
Someone who goes above and beyond for you every day. That keeps you {and your family} in line and makes the daily grind so much better. I bet you don’t even have to think very hard to identify that person.
Maybe that’s a teacher? A coworker? A best friend? Or maybe as you read this very blog post, you start to think of your mom, dad, grandpa, grandma, your children – whoever! We all have that SOMEONE who makes a daily impact on us.
On that note, as I brainstorming this latest tutorial, I thought of all the amazing people in my life. Gosh… It’s clique but I am really blessed to be surrounded by some awesome people. I honestly wouldn’t be who I am or where I am today, without them. They really are the “best crew” a girl could have.
So if you need a little something to show the people in your life some appreciation today, you are in the right place with my latest and greatest “Important Crew Member” card craft idea. In true Glued To My Crafts fashion, I’ve even included a FREE printable to get you started.
And although I typically gear my ideas towards younger kids to recreate {please read – this is very important!} a few of the supplies I used for my cards today, are better suited for adults and much older children. The spray-able ink I just so happen to pick up at Michaels recently, can stain your hands and clothes & unfortunately they aren’t washable inks. So I highly suggest an area that can get dirty and that you wear clothes that are ready to be retired afterwards, Maybe {for extra precaution} you should also wear some rubber gloves just in case {this is me covering ALL my bases!} But have no fears or worries {please don’t click away in fear!} if you would still want to do this particular craft with kids, I have a few alternatives listed below to steer you in a better direction. I just wanted to give these newly purchased spray inks a try and I loved what I was able to create :-) You are ALWAYS free to take our tutorials and alter them to fit your needs! In fact, I strive to give you ideas that you can run with!
Anyways – we are going to celebrate the important crew members in our life by creating some beautiful mixed media outerspace cards today. Find all the details, free printable and various tips below!
Happy crafting, my friends! Don’t forget to share pictures with us! #gluedtomycrafts
Paper Rocket Card Supplies:
- Free Important Crew Member File {Download HERE}
- White Cardstock Paper {8.5 x 11″}
- Color Printer
- Crayons, Colored Pencils, Markers etc.
- Paper Craft Scissors
- Paper Trimmer
- Colored Cardstock {8.5 x 11″}
- Spray-able Ink
- Baby Wipes for Cleanup
- Glue Stick or Tape Runner Adhesive
- optional – embellishments like star stickers, glitter, rhinestones
Directions:
- First things first – download and print our FREE “outer space” themed printable. You only need one printable to make TWO cards at once.
- Once you have the rocket printable printed out, grab your choice of coloring medium and your scissors.
- Color in your rocket{s} in the printable, however you like.
- When you are done, start off first by cutting around the “thanks” section, making each word sentiment block into a rectangle shape.
- Go ahead and also trim out each rocket design, as well.
- Discard excess paper and set aside all your paper pieces for later.
- Next grab two sheets of colored cardstock {any color you like!}
- Go ahead and fold each in half to make two simple cardstock cards. Set them aside.
- Now grab a single sheet of white cardstock.
- Fold it in half {just like the cards you made below} open it back up and then use scissors and/or a paper trimmer, to cut straight up the center. This will make TWO equal sized paper pieces.
- Go ahead and trim the two white pieces you just made, down a bit, so they will fit on the front of your cards. Be sure to double check and lay them on your folded cards & trim down as need be.
- Now, in a good working area {remember – these spray inks will STAIN!} go ahead and “spray” a colorful, unique design on both pieces of the white paper. Don’t worry if your design is not perfect!
- Use baby wipes if need be for cleanup {as well as soap & water!}
- Let the pieces lay there a bit, so the ink can dry completely.
- When ready, go ahead and use your tape runner {or a glue stick} to adhere your decorated ink paper to the front of your cardstock cards.
- Following the above step, take the rocket and the small “thanks for being an important crew member” rectangle shape and adhere both of them to the cards.
- Finally – add some star stickers all around the card front, to really give it that “galaxy” look.
- Last step – write something inside the cards, add anything else you see fit and get ready to give them to someone special today!
Make It Your Own!
Like I mentioned in the beginning, if these spray-able inks are not the best option for you, no worries! We still have a few ways for you {or your child} to recreate this craft with ease!
Instead of ink for the background, use washable watercolors instead. We personally love the Crayola brand.
Another way to enjoy this craft, skip making the background all together and buy pre-printed “outer space” scrapbook paper instead. I found this paper stack on Amazon recently.
One last tip – make your rocket POP from the page by using pop-up glue dots on the back of the shape!
