Non-Candy Easter Gift Idea – Building Brick Bunny Jar
Are you looking for a clever non-candy gift idea for your child’s Easter basket this year?
Maybe you are looking for something small to gift to the neighborhood kids or your child’s classmates?
Then look no further because today’s Building Brick Bunny Jar tutorial is the easiest DIY idea EVER! All you need is a glass jar, some white Lego pieces and a little bit of cardstock to tie it together. That’s it!
And I’m sure, if the lucky receiver is just like my son, they are going to love the inside of the jar, as much as the presentation!
First things first – where to get the white brick pieces. I found my solid white building bricks surprisingly at my local Dollar Tree store recently. They are off brand building blocks BUT surprisingly they do work well and click together nicely with the branded Lego stuff {this is tried and true in our home. We really can’t see a difference!} So for $1 a bag, this is quite a steal. There are 48 pieces in one bag, so depending on the size of your bunny container, you might need 2-3 bags total. This is a VERY affordable price compared to name brand. Here is a LINK on Dollar Tree but first check in the toy section of your local store.
Second option – you can also hit up a Lego store in your area {usually they are found in a mall.} These stores typically have a large back wall, with HUGE bins of Lego pieces, where you can buy EXACTLY the bricks you need. Whether you need a single color or a specific piece, I highly recommend starting there. Typically at the Lego owned stores, you just pile what you need into a plastic bag and they weigh it & give you a price.
Either option above is great for finding the bricks! I did try looking on Amazon for basic white brick sets but unfortunately I didn’t find many choices and the ones I did find, were very overpriced considering it was just white bricks. I wouldn’t suggest going that route at all- :-)
Last resort – If you can’t find solid white bricks at all, my next suggestion is to a do a simple mix of colors instead. Maybe some pastel yellow or pinks. You can find various color sets at Target, Walmart etc. The bunny jar concept can still come in play regardless of what color the bricks you decide to place inside of it – just saying!
Now that you have your brick pieces, you need a jar! Any size or shape will do.
For my jar, I used a glass spice jar that we already had on hand in our pantry {re-purpose something if you can or hit up a thrift shop!} I did see that Dollar Tree had some small mason jar like plastic containers in their Easter stuff, so that can be an option for you as well {especially if you are already there for the white bricks!}
Go ahead and fill your jar up with the white {or color} brick pieces until it’s completely full. Place the lid back on and twist it closed.
You got the jar and it’s full. Now grab the cardstock, scissors and glue dots! Cut out two long bunny ears and a simple nose shape. Use glue dots to secure your paper pieces on to the jar.
That’s it! You can either add some pretty ribbon or maybe even a gift tag around the jar. Then gift it away and make the lucky receiver smile today!
