It’s Literacy Week at my son’s school again and you better believe I was super excited for him to wear his Green Eggs & Ham Shirt made by me! Whoop whoop!
Inspired by the beloved Dr. Seuss book Green Eggs & Ham, I hope my tutorial sparks an awesome time in your home {and your child’s school} today!
Super Easy Iron-On Vinyl Green Eggs & Ham Shirt For Dr. Seuss Week
So before I get into all the details, let me spill some awesome news for Glued To My Crafts!
This year I’m partnering up with Cricut and I’m going to have soooo many kid craft ideas to share with you all, using their Cricut Maker cutting machine & products. I’m super excited for this new venture and can’t wait to share everything I have up my sleeve!
I’ll be sharing a couple product reviews in the coming weeks but till then, I couldn’t wait to hit publish on today’s Green Eggs and Ham Shirt post. After-all it’s Literacy Week for many of you this month/next month and I don’t want you to miss out on this grand diy t-shirt idea!
I have to say, if you don’t own a Cricut machine, this tutorial will probably not be very informative to you right now {but I hope I can still inspire you to make something similar today – maybe with fabric paint!} I just don’t want to give a full review of my Cricut Maker Machine/Easy Press 2 just yet {stay tuned for around mid-February for that and a couple full step-by-step tutorials} so please bare with me!
I also have to say, this particular shirt was my FIRST iron-vinyl project with the machines. Straight out the box, when it all arrived. In a way, it’s a practice run that actually turned out pretty good 🙂 When I say it’s easy – it really is!
I’m not a complete newbie to the Cricut world but when I had one a few years back, apps were totally not around and I think that is ultimately why I eventually sold my machine.
Changing cartridges back then, just wasn’t my thing and I lacked major patience.
So I’ll scream it from the roof top, I’m so glad I have an app for my Cricut now! It really does save you a ton of time {and space} and it was really easy to maneuver once you got the hang of it. Plus there is an endless amount of designs! Oh my gosh – it was heaven when I first started scrolling through everything. More details on that, coming up in my review posts! Stay tuned.
Anyways… once you are in the app, use the search bar to search for “egg” and “ham” images that you might want to use.
Above are the two designs I picked for my shirt. Fried Egg #MBB741DE and Meat #M7D9D4B. To me, they really gave off that Dr Seuss vibe I was looking for and they happened to match pretty well too.
From there, it was just a matter of selecting, placing the designs on the digital mat and resigning to fit on my son’s shirt. I believe my eggs were around 4 inches and the ham was closer to 6. If you are familiar with cutting with your machine, you will know what size you need, for what shirt 🙂
I then cut out TWO of the egg shapes and one ham piece from some white iron-on vinyl. I then went back to the app and cut out TWO circles out of the green iron-on vinyl, that fit inside the yolk portion of the eggs.
When I was ready, I “weeded” my vinyl pieces and used my Easy Press 2 to adhere them to the center of a basic yellow shirt from Michaels. That’s it!
So friends… I know it’s not as detailed as it should be but I really do hope I inspired something within you today with this quick green eggs and ham shirt tutorial!
Like I mentioned, there will be TONS of Cricut tutorials coming to Glued To My Crafts very soon. I’m super excited to share how easy it is to use the machine and how YOU can in-cooperate it into your kid craft needs! And I’ll just say, beyond shirts, party favors and the girly stuff! I’m talking, outside the traditional 🙂
