“You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man!!!”
We are helping the Gingerbread Man hide this holiday season, with our SUPER EASY paper plate kid craft idea! Keep scrolling to see our “Hiding Gingerbread Man” tutorial come to life and recreate it with your child today! Don’t forget to read the classic children’s story afteralls, as well! #gluedtomycrafts
My favorite types of kid craft tutorials stem from EASY materials. When Glued To My Crafts first started, we really focused on using paper plates. Not only were they easy to find in pretty much any store but they were also super cheap and rather simple to “mold” into whatever we wanted. I mean hello – have you seen our Paper Plate Elephant or Pineapple posts? Both of which are super popular on our site and the perfect crafts to make all year long!
Anyways, back on topic Stacey.
Nowadays, I use a large array of materials for our craft ideas on our website but my heart still “pitter patters” for paper plates. So recently, I came up with this Hiding Gingerbread Man craft idea and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Our little friendly character is hiding behind a “paper plate ornament” that can be customized however you like! This idea is super simple to recreate and I “think” it would be perfect for any holiday party at a kids table for entertainment. Hopefully that little tidbit also inspires you too!
So on to the tutorial! Find all the details below! BTW – I found these felt gingerbread men cutouts at Michaels recently but here is an affiliate link to similar.
Happy crafting, my friends!!!
Hiding Gingerbread Man Craft Supplies:
- Small Paper Plates {one per craft}
- Craft Paint or Puffy Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Cardstock
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Stapler
- School Glue
- Gingerbread Man Cutout {I got mine at Michaels}
- Wiggle Eyes
- Rhinestones or Glitter for decorating
Directions:
- First have children decorate their paper plate ornament however they like! I went with a little craft paint and cardstock in the center but you can of course do it even simpler or a more elaborate design. Just grab some materials and go to town on designing your ornament!
- When ready, take a small piece of ribbon, loop it in your hands and staple it to the paper plate to give the look of a hanging ornament. You can also cut out a “loop” from cardstock, for your ornament and staple it to the paper plate as well. When done, set it aside.
- Next, go ahead and decorate your gingerbread man to bring him to life. I did a little puffy paint for some icing and the wiggle eyes. Just keep in mind, his body will more than likely be hiding behind the ornament, so don’t focus too much on that area.
- When ready to finish the hiding gingerbread man craft, simple staple your “friend” to the back of the ornament, making him peak out just a little with his hand holding the paper plate.
- Then add anything else you like or see fit, before displaying proudly for all to see!
