Last night when I posted my original “Embroidery Hoop and Yarn Fox” tutorial, I mentioned in that particular blog post that you could easily turn my crafty idea into a wreath.
Well my friends… after hitting publish on the blog post, I couldn’t sleep last night! Like seriously! It kept me up nearly all night, thinking about it. The wheels were spinning and I couldn’t shut them off.
I was counting down the hours till I could drop off lil man at school and grab a few more supplies to make this fox wreath idea happen. ANd since we needed groceries anyways, I ended up at my local Walmart store and surprisingly I found everything I needed there.
One thing led to another and here we are again today :-) I can safely say I can sleep soundly tonight, knowing that my front door has my idea hanging from it now!
So how did I make it? Well – just like the previous tutorial but in a slightly larger scale. The biggest wooden hoop I could find at Walmart was 10″ but I do believe you can find larger ones at Michaels. For me, the 10″ is actually perfect for our door but you may want to look around.
Anyways – here is a quick tutorial on how I did it. Like always – you can change it up to fit your needs and current supplies. Maybe instead of yarn, you use twine or pretty ribbon. You can also use craft foam instead of felt like mine. It’s just matter of inspiring YOU to recreate your own wreath today!
Happy crafting, my friends! #gluedtomycrafts
Embroidery Hoop Fox Wreath Craft Supplies:
- Embroidery Hoop {any size – I used a 10″ inch from Walmart}
- Craft Scissors
- Orange Yarn
- Hot Glue Gun
- Orange Craft Felt
- White Craft Felt
- Brown Craft Foam
- Jumbo Wiggle Eyes
- Decorative Flowers and Leaves
- Ribbon
Directions:
- Before you start, let’s get that glue gun hot and ready!
- Go ahead and cut several long strands of orange yarn for your wreath.
- Take one piece of yarn. Start on one section of the hoop {doesn’t matter where} and either hot glue or tie off your orange yarn. This will be your starting point.
- Now begin wrapping the orange yarn tightly, several times across, around and through the embroidery hoop, until it looks as “full” as you want it. Add more strands of yarn as you go {by tying/hot gluing them to the hoop} You will want to go diagonal and spread each “line” equally throughout the hoop. Some people might want it a little see-through while some might want to it really “orange” and full.
- When done, set the hoop aside.
- Now grab your craft felt pieces. Using our pictures as an examples, cut out triangles for the ears and center face of the fox. Go ahead and also cut out a small circle from the brown craft foam {or felt – I just happened to have foam on hand} If desired – cut out a tail from the remaining craft felt for the fox as well.
- When those are cut out, hot glue them to your yarn wrapped hoop in the designated spots.
- Now hot glue the decorative leaves and flowers to the hoop to give it that festive “autumn” look.
- Finish off the fox themed wreath by hot gluing the jumbo wiggle eyes in place, as well as gluing some ribbon to the back for easy hanging.
- Add other embellishments you see fit {like a pretty colored bow or some glitter} before you display it proudly for all to see!
I love how easy it was to run from one idea to the next. You should know by now that once I have one idea in mind, I pretty much run it to the ground until I’m sick of it. These crafty wheels are ALWAYS spinning in my head, thinking of new ways to take things in another direction! I hope you appreciate that from me!!
So my very dear crafty friends. This is a DIY that you NEED TO DO this fall season. So do it! NOW!
