Recently I challenged my son and I to come up with a craft using up an old toilet paper roll. One thing lead to another and we came up with this awesome Mixed Media Beehive kid craft idea together! My personal favorite touch is the handprint bee!

Mixed Media Beehive Craft Supplies:

• Cardstock {we used a combination of white, yellow and black}
• Clean/Empty Toilet Paper Roll
• Gold Glitter Glue {affiliate link to what I used}
• Craft Scissors
• Pencil
• Black Crayon/Marker
• Medium Sized Wiggle Eyes
• Hand-held Stapler

Directions:

• First things first – the beehive. First we cut our toilet paper roll into small, thin circle loops. Just flatten the toilet paper roll with your hands and cut thin strips along the way. Once they are cut, open them back up to make the “honey combs.”
• Now, using the gold glitter glue {or regular school glue} glue the toilet paper loops in a beehive formation, in the center of some white cardstock.
• Next – take the remaining gold glitter glue and “paint” in the bee hive to give it more of a golden yellow look.
• Take your black marker or crayon and draw around the toilet paper pieces to really define the beehive. Set aside to let it dry.
• Now grab your remaining cardstock. Trace your child’s hand on the yellow cardstock. Trim out.
• Grab your black and white cardstock. Cut out a head for the bee and a wing as well. Attach the wiggle eyes for the bee to see.
• Glue or staple those to the handprint cutout. Go ahead and draw on the stripes for the bee on the handprints as well.
• Finally – glue the handprint bee to your beautiful beehive creation.
• Then display proudly for ALL to see!
