It’s O-FISH-AL! We love PAINT SPLAT crafts on Glued To My Crafts!
To recreate this Paint Splat Ocean Scene, I used white, as well as colored cardstock, my trusty & favorite Tulip Puffy Paint, school glue, wiggle eyes and ocean themed stickers from Michaels {which is actually what inspired this craft to begin with!} You will also need a pencil and some scissors for the handprint fish element.
The basic foundation of this craft, was taking the white cardstock and various shades of blue Puffy Paint {affiliate link} to make the “ocean water” that really sets the scene. Although I believe the Tulip brand, you can also use other craft paint for this DIY.
Let’s start with the ocean scene. Just fold your white cardstock in half, open back up and squirt a few lines of squiggles with your two-three shades of blue paint colors ON ONE SIDE before closing up the white cardstock again.
Once the paper is closed for the second time, gently take your hand and “caress” the paint around inside, so it makes a fun symmetrical “wave” print design on both sides of the paper {keep in mind – paint might ooze from the sides of the cardstock, so be sure to work in an area that can get dirty!}
Now you are ready to open it back up and see the BEGINNING of what your ocean scene will be. From there you decorate it to bring it to life. So till then, set aside, to let it dry a bit.
Next up, grab ANY color cardstock, a pencil and your scissors. Trace/trim out your child’s handprint for the fish. Add embellishments to bring the fish to life wiggle eyes, lips, etc} Glue it to the center of your newly made paint splat piece.
Then – if desired – you can add ocean themed stickers all around. I got mine at Michaels in the craft foam aisle. You can also add glitter, rhinestones – whatever the crafty heart desires!
Once finished with your custom ocean masterpiece, set aside to let it dry completely, before displaying proudly! And of course – repeat as many times as you like! No two pieces will be the same and I think that’s what makes it even more fun!
