Stained Glass Rainbow Fish – Kid Craft w/free printable template
Hi my crafty friends! Are you ready to make something extra COLORFUL with the kids today?!
With today’s Stained Glass Rainbow Fish kid craft idea and free printable template, your child is sure to “fish” up something beautiful and extra crafty that is perfect to display on the windows ALL YEAR LONG!
Have kids create their own “fishy friend” with our simple DIY idea, while making their own version of what a rainbow fish should look like! No two pieces will be alike and that’s what makes this EXTRA FUN!
So what will your fish look like? We used leftover metallic gift wrap from a previous post but you can also use glitter, sequins, maybe even some colored feathers? Whatever you decide to place in it – we hope you have fun creating it!

PAIR YOUR STAINED GLASS FISH CRAFT WITH —> Cupcake Liner Rainbow Fish – Story Time Kid Craft Idea
Stained Glass Rainbow Fish Supplies:
- Free Fish Templates {download on box.com red, pink, purple, green}
- Colored Printer
- White Cardstock Paper
- Paper Craft Scissors
- Clear Contact Paper
- Glitter, sequins, feathers, tissue paper etc.
- Large Adhesive Wiggle Eyes – one per fish craft
Directions:
- First download and print the FREE templates above {pick your fav color or do all at once!} You will want one fish printable per craft.
- Grab your scissors and the template.
- Trim out the fish, as well as the oval center out of it.
- Discard excess paper.
- Now grab your clear contact paper.
- Cut out TWO pieces that are bigger than the fish cutout.
- Remove the backing from one piece of contact paper.
- Lay it on a flat surface.
- Place the fish cutout, face down, on the contact paper.
- Next have children decorate the inside of their fish however they like {remember – it’s whatever THEY for their rainbow fish. I used cut-up metallic wrapping paper for mine}
- Once they are done “designing their fish,” grab the second piece of contact paper.
- Peel off the backing and place it on top of the other piece of contact paper, moving your hand around to “squish” everything together.
- To finish off the Stained Glass Rainbow Fish craft, use your scissors to trim out the fish/remove the excess contact paper.
- Go ahead and add your wiggle eye so your fish can see.
- Then display your masterpiece proudly on a window with some washi tape!!!
