Patriotic Handprint Flag Plate - Keepsake Idea

Painted Flag Plate Keepsake

If you have been a long-time follower of Glued To My Crafts, you probably already know that we are a military family {Air Force proud here!}

So for the recent Veteran’s Day holiday, a few weeks ago, we made a special trip to the local pottery shop down the road from us, for a crafty family “day date.”

To tie the Veteran’s Day theme all together, we made this Patriotic Handprint Flag Plate recently and of course, I had to share some pictures of the finished product with you all!

Although I don’t have a full tutorial to share with you all today, I hope I encourage YOU to at least check out YOUR local pottery shop and recreate your own flag piece as well! A lot of times you can simply walk in, tell them your idea and they were very quick to point you in the right direction!

Rest assured – it’s super easy! As you see, I used my son’s handprint for the “blue star” part of the flag {which went down first in one corner} and then I painted straight, red lines from there. So I repeat… start with the blue handprint in one corner and then the stripes for the remainder of the plate. This could easily take you about 30 minutes start to finish, depending on how long the handprint step takes you.

Then, after we were done painting, the pottery shop did their thing {baking it for us} and a week later I picked it up when it was completed. It’s got a nice shiny clear coat on it now, so it’s easy for cleaning and placing food on. I can easily see this piece being in our household for years to come!

Like I said – easy peasy, especially since the pottery shop did the most work for us!!!

Handprint Flag Plate Keepsake Idea

I plan on using my plate for patriotic holidays, get togethers and just because I can moments. I can even display it as decor in our home, with a plate holder to secure it in place.

So be sure to check out your local pottery shop and make your own Patriotic Handprint Flag Dish with your child today! It doesn’t have to be in honor of any holiday either 😉 We also have our Handprint Flag Shirt for you to recreate as well!

Happy crafting, my friends! Don’t forget to share pictures with us on Facebook or tag us on Instagram, as well! #gluedtomycrafts

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
