Flower Garden Pretend Play Idea For Kids
For many of you, spring is in full swing!
Although snow is still in the forecast where we live, here in Wyoming, the grass is starting to turn green and we have a few flowers in our front yard already. I seriously can’t wait for the weather to get warmer so we can do some outdoor activities and break the “cabin fever” we have.
With the weather change – it’s the perfect excuse for me to show you this Plant & Grow pretend busy bag tutorial. It’s a great dramatic play idea for young kids to learn how to be a little gardener. All the items are from Dollar Tree and cost me $7 total. You could even spend less, if you have the items on hand already.
Here is what you need to make your own plant & grow flower garden busy bag today:

Play Supplies:
- Fake Flowers {I did three bundles for our pretend set}
- Wire Cutters {for adults only to trim down the fake flowers!}
- Planter Containers
- Styrofoam Square {Big enough to fit in planter and be snug}
- Small Plastic Watering Can
- Empty Seed Packets/Laminator
- Large Plastic Container for Storage
Directions:
- ADULTS – using the wire cutters – trim/separate your fake flowers. This way kids can “stick” them easily in the styrofoam.
- Now place the styrofoam square inside the planter. You may have to trim it down to make it fit, but make sure it’s nice and snug in there. You don’t want it coming out when your child pulls the flowers out.
- Next up – laminate your empty seed packets so they stay in good condition. If you don’t have any seed packets – draw some designs out on cardstock and laminate those. You also don’t need a fancy laminator either! This step can be done with some packing tape as well!
- Finally – show your child how they can “shake” the seeds, water and plant the flowers. And of course – repeat over and over again!
- Then when not in use, place it all in a large plastic container for storage, till next time!
