Recently I made these DIY Mickey decor pieces for my son’s 3rd birthday. As an added bonus, there is a THIRD idea below! Check out the full tutorial to see how!
I can’t believe I’m typing this but my son’s 3rd birthday is LESS than a month away.
It’s so hard to believe that three years have gone by already. I know it’s clique to say – but it really does go by fast. Just the other day, I was watching home movies of him learning how to crawl and here he is now – running away from me giggling.
Like any toddler – his favorite show is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. The second his eyes open up in the morning, the first thing I hear is “icky?? icky??” Clear indication that the TV is no longer ours. I can’t complain though. I rather watch Mickey then some of the other “kid” shows out there.
So in spirit of his favorite show, we are rolling with a theme of Mickey Mouse for his birthday. Although it will be just us three celebrating, I’m planning on going out a bit {Says the crafty mama on a current spending restriction!}
Recently I made these Mickey inspired decor items for the decorations that day. Once his special day is over, these are moving to his room for a permanent position. It’s a two-fold kind of thing {And my justification to my husband for spending the money on them!}
Keep scrolling to see how I pulled these Mickey inspired wood decor pieces together within minutes! BTW – all the supplies for my DIY Mickey decor pieces were bought at Michaels recently and were fairly cheap too!!!
If you do decide to recreate these ideas or you are just inspired by my post, come share what you make on our Facebook page so I can see! #gluedtomycrafts
PAIR YOUR MICKEY CRAFT WITH OUR —> Paper Bag Mickey Puppet – Kid Craft Idea

DIY Mickey Decor Craft Supplies:
* Wood Frame {any size you find/want!}
* Wood Letter {again, any size!}
* Painter’s Tape
* Craft Paint – Red, White, Black
* Paint Brushes/Clean Wine Cork
* Paper Plate/Trash Bag for working surface
* Black Colored Cardstock
* Small Craft Circle Punch

The Simple Directions:
1. On both pieces – I laid a piece of painter’s tape to divide the sections. One half would be black and the other red.
2. I painted the bottom half of each of my pieces red first. This is Mickey’s pants. Let it dry. Then peel off the painter’s tape.
3. Re-add another piece of painter’s tape so the black and red will line up nicely. Paint the top half black. This is Mickey’s body. Let it dry and carefully peel off the painter’s tape.
4. Next – using a wine cork and white paint, I stamped two white dots on the red half. Then using a small paint brush, I painted 4 small dots in the white circle. These are the buttons on Mickey’s pants.
5. Set all aside to let dry completely.
6. For the ears on the picture frame, I punched out two circles from my black cardstock and hot glued them to the back.
7. Then display your DIY Mickey decor pieces PROUDLY for all to see!

As an added bonus today – above you will love the sweet keepsake I made with my son on his birthday. It was MICKEY MOUSE inspired!!!
