Painting Craft With Indian Corn
A few weeks back, we crossed some things off our fall bucket list when we visited a local pumpkin patch over in Colorado.
While we were there and experiencing the fun – we also took advantage of picking up some fresh produce. Best part was that Lil Man got to help pick out the very items we took home that day. {You should have seen that huge smile on his face!}
Surprisingly the prices were so amazing that we couldn’t pass it up. We filled up a huge red wagon with watermelon, pumpkins, cabbage, various squashes and Indian Corn, ALL for $15. You seriously can’t get those deals at the grocery store.
While we sorted through the bin full of Indian corn to find the perfect ones – I started to make plans in my head. Of course I had to grab a few for fall decorations in the living room but I also needed some for a fun craft for Lil Man {Never miss an opportunity to pick up craft supplies!}
Now you all know how much I love doing crafts with my son. It really brings joy to me when I see his face light up from the excitement and thrill of the craft. Since daddy is more of a hands-on player, I really turn craft time into mommy/son time and I really treasure it.
Now you might be asking “How do you keep his attention enough to do all those crafts?”
Simple! I keep his attention span interested by changing up the supplies each time. From different textures to different shapes – I make it interesting each time. {On the cheap I might add!} And of course – giving him full control of the craft.
With this Indian Corn Painting craft, all you need to do is hand over the supplies and see what your child comes up with. There are no real rules and when the paint dries on the Indian Corn afterwards – you have another fun decoration to add to your fall collection. It’s just simple fun.

Here is how you can do Indian Corn Painting with your child:

Craft Supplies:
- Colorful Paint {I highly suggest something a bit watery like a children’s friendly tempera paint or fingerpaints}
- Dry/Clean Indian Corn
- Thick Construction Paper
- Painter’s Tape or Washi Tape
- Paper Plate
- Baby Wipes
- Optional Materials – Stickers, Stamps, Glitter etc.
Directions:
- To start the project – squirt some paint on a paper plate and prepare a working area. {I taped down some brown wrapping paper on our dining room table, but any type of paper will do}
- Show your child how you roll the corn through the paint, then on the paper. Repeat until desired design is achieved.
- Have them decorate their painting with stickers or other embellishments.
- Allow paper to completely dry before displaying.
- Then save/display the painted indian corn for fall decorations.
