So after skimming through Pinterest the other day, I came across this recipe for Pumpkin Pie Play-dough. Since it was “pumpkin” scented, naturally I had to make it for lil man.
I promise you, once October is done, I will stop posting anything pumpkin. Until then, please be inspired to recreate all the pumpkin things I have posted ;)
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
2 tbsp oil
2 tbsp cream of tartar
1/3 of the jar of pumpkin pie spice (the tiny jar)
food coloring-red & yellow
Combine the all the dry ingredients and oil in a medium size bowl. Then add to a medium sized saucepan. Slowly add the water. Add a few dashes of each of the extracts and a few drops of red and yellow food coloring. Mix well while cooking it over medium heat. Stirring until stiff. This is where you can add more food coloring, to get the color you want. Less red, more yellow to achieve orange. Once it’s finished cooking, drop it on a sheet of wax paper. Allow to cool before you play with it. If the dough is too sticky, you can add more flour. If the dough is too dry, add a few drops of water.
Be sure to store dough in air-tight container for future play.
And as you can see in the picture below, someone had fun with it. I got some wood stamps out for him to stamp designs in it. And although it’s non-toxic, please be sure to watch children during this craft project. Lil man decided to take a taste when I wasn’t looking and apparently it didn’t taste good. (I had to clean up vomit, yuck)
So that is all for today. Do you like playing with play dough? I personally like this version better. The store bought stuff always makes me want to gag. The smell lingers in your hands/clothes. Yuck. This recipe is far better. The cost & the smell.
